Private Patrick Cleary

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

Patrick Cleary enlisted at Sligo on 3 January 1917. He was described as having a sallow complexion and dark hair. He stated that he was 28 years old, was born in Tibsham (Tibohine), County Roscommon, and worked as a farm hand.

Between 23 June and 2 July 1917 he was posted to the North Irish Horse (regimental number 2546). He trained at the regiment's reserve base at Antrim, but was reported to have deserted on 25 August 1917. Whether he subsequently returned to duty is not known.
